overview

> PantherHacks is Chapman University’s student-run hackathon organized by the Computer Science Club. The project encompassed creating a recognizable look for the entire event’s branding: most importantly, the event’s website, but also social media posts for the new PantherHacks Instagram account, exclusive stickers, a free t-shirt for participants, and all other materials to be used for the event.

wireframes
> After the theme and typography choices were made, wireframes were developed for each necessary
section of the single page site: “About,” “Tracks,”
“Prizes,” “FAQs,” and “Team.“ The number one
consideration during this process was the ease at which users could locate important information, like the date of the event and the application period.

> The original color scheme of black, orange, blue and pink blended beautifully into the dark background, however incorporating purple and green as well created a vibrant environment reminiscent of a bustling city at night. The “Team” section was notably simplified for clarity and ease of access to users looking for a specific organizer.

final design
> The final website integrates the creative direction into an interactive and immersive experience. The section headings feature flickering characters and soft glow, beautifully detailed on any device size. The “Prizes” section, spearheaded by the Software Team, was transformed into a vending machine/trading card hover screen which jumps the user back to the
description of the track of each item when clicked.

social media
> As the first year of accepting applicants outside the school, the team had to develop a strategy to reach as many computer science-inclined students in Southern California as quickly as possible, since the time between the website launch and the application due date was 3 weeks. The team created multiple short-form videos for Instagram (Reels) to gain maximum online exposure.

> This event wouldn't have been possible without the amazing, dedicated members of Chapman CS Club. Special thanks to the Web Development team Daniel Tsivkovski, Dylan Ravel, and Kalin Richardson. Pantherhacks is an extremely meaningful project to me and one of the projects that made me fall in love with web design. So grateful to have been a part of this journey and bring the event to life for the second year in a row!
